Botanical Name: Philodendron erubescens 'Black Cardinal'
Common Name(s): Black Cardinal, Blushing
Description: Native to South America, the Blushing or Black Cardinal Philodendron has rich, dark green and reddish coloration on its leaves, with a smooth, almost matte like finish. Its thick yet flexible foliage makes this a very hardy plant and is quite easy to care for, requiring waterings only when an inch of the top soil is dry. A great addition to any plant collection
Philodendrons, Monsteras, and all plants in the Araceae family are also known as arums or aroids. Aroids thrive in mildly acidic soil mixes with excellent drainage and good water retention. They want large air pockets in the soil for their roots to grow into and access plenty of oxygen. Coco coir and aged / fine bark provides some water retention while chunky bark and perlite create those large pockets of aeration.
